I love weddings! I hate goodbye’s!

We had another great weekend.  David took his last final on Friday morning and when it was over he was noticeably more relaxed.  I kept asking him if he was OK because he was so mellow and quiet…he kept telling me he was just relaxing and chilling. 🙂 I am glad…he deserves it more than anyone.
I am sure that the dreaded departure was part of it too…even though we tried to ignore it and just have fun we knew that come Sunday morning we would be saying goodbye for 10 whole days!  We didn’t want to say goodbye.
BUT! We still had some fun.  Friday night was Aunt Cathy’s surprise birthday party which was hosted by her two daughters and husband…a complete success! She had no idea!  Lots of yummy food and visiting with fun people!
The next day was wedding day!  We were able to witness the sealing of these two and it was beautiful! And such a beautiful day!  We didn’t mind one bit waiting outside for them to come out!  Congrats you guys!  You are such an awesome couple!
These two pics are out of order (I stole them from Aunt Sharon…thanks Aunt Sharon!) This is Ben at the wedding luncheon at Magelby’s….yummm.
And this is that night at the reception with all the cousins that were there.  So fun.
Now we’re back to the temple in the morning where the tulips were in full bloom and so beautiful!  Ben loved to smell them and said “mmmmmmm” after each one.
MY boys
My goofy brother supposed to be taking a picture of us but instead decided to throw this gem in there.
Me, mom, Jenna and Aunt Pam (Mother of the groom!)
My brothers and dad..and beautiful Becca too!
Later at the luncheon Papa fed Ben some carrot cake…a highlight I am sure.
It was 3 hours past Ben’s bedtime but we decided to wait until the dancing started so we could dance one dance together. 🙂 After all he was leaving in just a few short hours and we don’t often get to dance for reals!
Miss him!
On Sunday morning we woke up at 5:30 and were out the door by 6 to go to the airport.  We got checked in pretty quick even though the line was long and there were a lot of people there, and then we, yes we, waited in the security line.  I stayed as long as I could and ducked through the security tape at the very last moment.  As I was walking away sobbing I realized that I had his phone! Oh no!  I ran my pregnant self as fast as I could back over to the line and squeaked his name as loud as my sobbing voice could…man I am sure it looked like a scene from a cheesy romance movie!  I barely caught him before he went through the screening thing and he had to weasel his way back through the crowd and grab his phone…we stole another quick kiss over a few stands of security lines and then he was gone again and I sobbed.  People were staring.  I didn’t care.  I waited by the stairs until he got all the way through and I couldn’t see him anymore…then I cried even harder and walked away.  More people stared.  I still didn’t care.  When I got to the car I cried even harder…the ugly cry and finally found a way to drive home.  Dramatic huh?  Well that’s us.  Our favorite place to be really is with each other so this next week and a half is going to be rough.
Well when I got home we did the normal Sunday things but we also got to spend some time over at Natalie and Joe’s.  It was fun for Ben to be around his cousins even though he was shy up until the very end.
Ben and Beckham…handsome boys!  Wish I had gotten more pics but everyone was moving so fast I couldn’t snap any…hopefully we see them again soon. 🙂
Our weekend was a very fun one.  It was Lucie’s birthday and it was also Clark and Jenna’s graduation!  We were so excited to have Lucie for her 9th birthday and even though her actual big day was spent at a lengthy graduation ceremony she was a trooper and sport!
While we waited to meet up with Lucie Lu we spent some time at Judy’s house, admired the tulips and talked with James.  Sorry we missed you Judy!
The ceremony was exciting.  I was so proud of my brother and sister in law and being at an actual ceremony brought it home for me even more.  It also reminded me that in year (hopefully) this will be what David is doing! Yay!
Mr. and Mrs. Clark Stephenson
After graduation we hit up a local Denny’s for shakes (and an omelet in my case).  Lucie was sung happy birthday by the enthusiastic group of workers and given some strawberry ice cream.  I think that made up for sitting for 3 hours at graduation a little.
But Saturday was the day we did the real celebrating.  After Ben’s morning nap (which was 3 hours btw…he’s not used to going to bed after 6 or 7 at the latest…9:30 was rooough!) we headed to the zoo!  And so did everybody else in the Salt Lake valley! It was literally a zoo! Somehow we were blessed with somewhat good parking and even though you had to crowd your way through to see anything it was totally worth it!  Jace and Lucie had a blast.  They were our little navigators and we let them lead the way!  They did a good job.  When they got pooped we refueled with some good ‘ol zoo food and off we were again!  Ben loved seeing all the animals.  He got so excited sometimes he wanted to be let down in the cages to play with the animals.  Especially when he saw the ginormous desert tortoise.  So cool!
By the time we were done these three were pooped!  What a fun day! And it’s not even over yet!  Once back at home (the Ehlerts) we fired up the grill and made hotdogs and hamburgers and made homemade fries!  Yum!  Then we did cake, ice cream and presents.
Love what we did with the candle when none could be found!? It worked…
Money always brings smiles to a 9 year old’s face…
It was such a beautiful weekend it was spent mostly outside… here is a smart girl basking in the early Sunday morning sun reading one of her new books.  The cat is also enjoying the moment.
Sunday was spent mostly with Lucie cousins (David’s sisters house) which was fun and always is fun for everyone!  Mad I didn’t get any pictures!  Thanks for a great weekend Lucie, we love you!
Just some pics of what we’ve been up to lately…
The garden is staring to show signs of spring…we’ve planted potatoes, onions, rhubarb, spinach, snap peas and the asparagus and raspberries are poking their heads through the dirt.  Ben looooves to be out there and loves especially eating the green onions.  The ducks have been giving us 9 eggs a day which is nice and they too love being out in the garden and love them eating all the bugs.  It’s all so exciting…
Up next in exciting news, we got a new stroller! Yay…and big sister Lucie came into town to play for a few days.  Boy does Ben love Lucie.
On Davids Birthday, we went to Salt Lake and did the Living Plant Aquarium!  Happy Birthday my love!
The next day we celebrated properly (at least that was the plan) with dinner and cake but my cake was a complete flop!  I can’t even post a picture of it I am so embarrassed! Sorry hon!  He ate it anyway. 🙂
Oh and this is Ben’s betrothed, Emma.  Shes a cutie in the ward and her parents and us have arranged their marriage.  Convenient don’t you think?  Right now he doesn’t think much of her except to give her weird looks but he’ll come around. 🙂
Yesterday was fun…I wish I would have took pictures.  Brian and his friend Blake were in town and so were Pam and Spencer unexpectedly!  So there was dinner for 8 at my house!  So fun visiting and being with family.
That’s life in a nutshell for the past few weeks.

Spring Break 2013

****I just realized I never posted about Spring Break!****
This past weekend and week was such a fun filled one.  On Saturday we got to drive to Salt Lake for my cousin Mikele’s farewell.  On Saturday we met up with one of my best friends KC and had lunch/dinner at our favorite Salt Lake spot called PHO HOA.  It is delicious.  Rarely do we pass through Salt Lake without stopping there.  If you get the chance I highly recommend it.

After filling our bellies (most the way) we headed over to my aunts house and met Clark, Jenna and Brian there where Clarky cooked a delectable meal of steak kabobs and asparagus.  Yum!  It was fun hanging out with family.  Then we proceeded to have a VERY rough night with Ben, up every hour it seemed screaming etc. Fun fun!  But we got through it.  The next morning we got ready for church and got to enjoy a beautiful farewell for Mikele who is going to be an outstanding missionary in Chile.  I am so excited for her and love her.  As do many many other people it seemed!  The ‘after party’ was probably the biggest one I’ve ever seen!  So many people coming in and out to wish Mikele good luck.  Also a great time visiting with family and relaxing with good food of course!  Thanks Stephensons!

Around 3 in the afternoon we decided that we’d probably better get on the road on the way to St. George!  We had a 4 hour drive ahead of us!  So we packed up including my beautiful cousin Melanie who came with us and headed out!  That drive is always a little rough even if Ben did do a good job but it was totally worth it!!!  What an amazing week!  It was perfect in every way!  We stayed at Grandma and Grandpa Stephensons which is up on a hill and was beautiful as we took morning and evening walks or just chilled on the balcony.  It was so great to visit with G & G Stephenson while we were there in the mornings and evenings.  I love them so much.

We also spent some time with my G & G Sharp which was wonderful and definitely not long enough.  We love and miss them too.  The rest of the time was spent with Rob and Chels and Ben’s cousins.  It was either playing in their amazing backyard or hiking or swimming!  So fun!  The weather was perfect and so wonderful.  I even got sunburn!  Yay!  I’ll take it because it’s been years and it will probably be years again until that happens again!

Ben enjoyed being outside immensely.  I think he is born to be outside.  When we were inside he wanted to be outside and when we were outside he wanted to stay put.  He stayed up past his bedtime frequently and got dirty playing in the dirt and jumping on the tramp, letting Scooby the dog slobber on him…the list goes on and on.  So fun.  It truly was hard to leave.  Usually after vacation I am pretty ready to come home but not this time!  Part of that had to do with the fact that I loved Grandmas bed!  I slept better there than I do at home!  Don’t you worry I got the name of the mattress and will be looking for one!

Oh how wonderful it was to have a break.  Ben and I had David all to ourselves everyday all day for 5 days!  Ben was in daddy heaven.  He didn’t want anything to do with me that whole time! And I completely understand too!  He just loves his daddy and was enjoying his time with him.  I love it…and I love my boys…including the one that is kicking me from inside.  J
Ben got his first sickness this week.  I don’t really know what to call it because it doesn’t seem like a cold or the flu he just has a nasty cough.  But apart from that he seems perfectly happy!  It’s weird.  I am hoping because he is still sleeping like a champ that he’ll kick it soon.  He’s been so healthy all his life so it’s hard to see him go through this even if it is just a silly cough.
The weirdest thing is that my hubby came down with something and I didn’t.  It’s almost always the other way around.  He’s been working too hard lately.  I am ready for summer break so that at least he gets a break from classes.  Also I am so excited for this baby to come!  With Ben I was patient and calm but with this baby I find myself impatient and all to ready for it to be July.  I’d better calm down since it’s still a ways away.  I’ll probably distract myself with some good ol spring cleaning!  Yay!  Just wish it would decide to be spring here…

We have been without internet for about a week until this morning.  It’s been an interesting experience.  Except for going to my parents and using their signal once I have been totally disconnected.  Not only from the internet but we got rid of TV as well.  I feel really really good about that decision but I am not going to lie, it’s going to take some getting used to.  I am used to having a free minute and wanting to relax and my choice was to flop on the couch and turn on the boob tube.  No more!  You wouldn’t believe how productive I have been this last week!  And not really on purpose! It’s just happened.  Yay!  I read a book in about 2 days which probably normally would have taken me 2 weeks.  That’s fun.  I have more on hold at the library.  I am kind of disappointed that we wasted so much money and time with the TV.  Oh well.  Life goes on and so will we!
But this whole internet thing…man!  The only explanation that I can come up with is that Satan is not happy that we decided to get rid of TV and try to live more within our means that he made this whole switching experience HELL!!  OK sorry for the language but seriously there is no other word for what we went through these past few weeks.  I won’t go into the details but for those of you who know my husband know that he never gets upset, ESPECIALLY at perfect strangers on the phone!  He is always so nice to people that are helping us on the phone, he goes the extra mile to make sure they know how grateful he is for their help.  Well it was this way for a while.  Long past the moment when I would have blown a casket that he actually started to get frustrated and angry!  Way to go Internet Company you accomplished the impossible!  Made my perfectly sweet and calm husband angry!  Not just angry, furious!!!  It was no fun.  37 phone calls, 45 representatives and 10 different stories from each later we finally got a technician out to check things out and fix the problem.  $22 for internet, it’d better be or cheaper for what we went through!
Sheeeesh!  Ok, breath and moving on!  What an interesting..test?  I am not sure we passed.  J whoops.
Well things are going good here at the Sherwood home.  Ben had his first real boo-boo last week.  He gets so stinking excited when the fridge is opened, one day I had it open to grab something and knew he would be darting for the eggs so I closed it…unfortunately the door was in just the WRONG place that when he slipped and fell forward he knocked the corner of the door.  Not a very sharp edge right so I was thinking ouch that hurt but probably didn’t do any damage.  Boy was I wrong!  After he calmed down I looked at him and he had blood dripping down between his eyes and down his nose and lip! Ahhhhhh! Freak out!  It was a thick thick gash; I was thinking that he would need stitches!  But after my mom and dad and David looked at it we decided that it probably wasn’t necessary.  We just tried to patch the poor screaming thing as best as we could. He’s been wearing a Band-Aid ever since.
The scab just came off and I think it’s going to heal pretty nicely.  Now I catch my breath every time he falls in fear that he’s going to crack something else open.  Geeze…no relief with a little man learning to run around the house.
We bought him a new pair of shoes because he keeps growing (go figure) and he just loves them.  He brings them to me so I will put them on and he just walks around the house with them on.  He looks sad in some of these pictures because he wants the camera but of course I refuse because it would just get tossed in his pile of randomness shoved away in his favorite cupboard.  I probably wouldn’t be able to find it for a while. J  Anyway, isn’t he cute?  I love that he still has his chubby chubby legs.  I am waiting for them to burn away as he runs laps across our apartment..I’ll probably cry.  We’ll just have to make sure his brother gets chubby so as to fill my chubby baby need.
It’s a real need.  Seriously.

Happy Birthday Benjamin!

Yesterday we had Ben’s first B-day party.  My baby is 1 year old.  That’s weird to say.  I have a 1 year old.  Ah!  Well it was quite the exciting day and as silly as some people might think it is I feel it was totally worth it and tons of fun.  I mean just look at these pictures!
Chad and Ben
Ready to party with their party hats on!
He was spoiled!
David’s professor came to party with us too!  He is the one who David works with on his research at school. They are close. 🙂
We decided after a little talk and some play that it was time to start the cake! Especially before Ben realized what was on his head and took his hat off! I couldn’t believe he had it on for so long.
He was really timid and shy at first and didn’t know what to do with this big pile in front of him…Plus he had a room full of people watching him!
But he warmed up and after a while pretty much dug in! First it was the frosting…that’s all he scraped off and ate but then he went in for the meat.
He was really enjoying it….how do I know?  Because when we took it away (no we didn’t let him eat the whole thing) this is what happened.  So precious…
He calmed down when we started washing his hands and face in the sink.  Then it was on to the presents!
Terrible pics…sorry.  Here are a few videos…
It was such a fun day that he even got to stay up till 7pm! Yay!  Uncle Brian was nice enough to come into town for the event and they had fun together.
We’ve had fun playing with his new toys ever since and it’s like he knows he’s a  year old now because he’s walking all the time! It’s rare for him to crawl now..all the sudden!  My baby boy isn’t so much a baby anymore!
I feel like I’ve been the worst blogger lately.  Well it’s because I have.  I don’t know the reason really other than I just don’t have the computer that often anymore since David has it most the time and our other one gave up the ghost.  The other reason could be that there just isn’t much to blog about?  Who knows….but here is my attempt to break the dry spell.  We’ll see if it works.
Our lives are pretty simple right now.  Ben and I hang out all day every day usually at home because well it’s like -4 degrees outside and who wants to go out in that?  It’s also flu season so I am quite content just staying home and keeping away from that rampage.  We have fun though.  Not as much fun as when daddy comes home though…man does that boy love his daddy.  I don’t blame him.  He’s a fun guy.  Plus he’s stuck with me all day so seeing and playing with daddy is like a hay day!  It’s also Papa too…this boy loooves his papa (grandpa).  It’s not unusual for Ben to cling to his papa and turn away from me when I am trying to take him so papa can go.  Makes me feel wonderful let me tell ya.  🙂  But I understand.  I would be sick of me too.
He is growing up so fast.  He will be 1 year old in about 3 weeks.  I can’t really believe it.  He is a really good walker now.  He doesn’t do it on his own much but sometimes he does and it drives me crazy.  Mostly he does it with the encouragement of us.  He can walk across the room now with no problems.  I guess when he wants to he’ll start doing it by himself all the time. I don’t know yet how I feel about it.
He is such a spaz too and I can’t really explain it to you, it’s one of those things you have to experience.  Just so full of energy and personality.  The sad part about it is, me, David, my mom and dad are the the only ones that get to experience it truly.  He’s deep into the ‘stranger danger’ phase so around other people he is really coy and reserved.  It’s a shame.  But I guess (I hope) in time that will fade.   I could go on and on about him but I wont. Maybe later I mean.  🙂
David is “making progress” as always.  He is super busy with school now that another semester started and his research project on the side is going really well.  He wishes he could just quit the classes part of school and research all day every day until he figures this out.  But the problem is he’s working with plants and plants have to grow so we all have to patient.  I never thought I would become giddy and excited about a flat of tiny little plants growing somewhere in some lab up on USU campus but I am..and I do.  They look so good!  He can soon start to dissect things and make more progress.  I am aware that most of you probably have no idea what I am talking about and that’s OK.  Maybe someday we’ll all understand more.  🙂
The business is doing really well too. We are all very anxious for these next few months.  Starting in February a HUGE online retailer that sells all things pet is going to start PROMOTING and selling our feed!!   Yipee!  They are going to send emails to their already rabbit food customers and tell them about our amazing feed.  Just in time for Easter…we’re hoping that’s big.  It is big.  This website doesn’t let just anybody sell their stuff but we got in!  And get this…I couldn’t believe this…this website http://www.drsfostersmith.com/?ref=4397&subref=AA&cmpid=PPC-G-4397 spends some outrageous amount of money on advertising every month…I can’t say that I remember exactly but we’re talking somewhere in millions people.  And we’re apart of it now! Yay!  OK…the next big thing is starting on March 1 you will be able to find our feed in 33 IFA stores across the west.  Ha!  Can you believe it!  I can’t!  All I can say is FINALLY!!!  It’s been a long road guys so these two things are big news for us.  We know it will just open doors for future things and get the ball rolling.  I am just not sure why it took 2 years!?  Ya ya…it’s business I know.  But heck!!!
Anyway that’s our life right now.  Business, school and baby…well babies.  🙂  Little baby is growing like crazy.  I had a dream last night that it was twins.  I am not going to lie..I wasn’t excited.  I was crying…like a baby.  hahaha.  But I am sure if that was the case I would be very very excited.  I am 14 weeks so in about 5 more weeks we can find out what this little bun is!  I think it’s a girl.  Infact I am almost positive. Let’s just say I’ll be SHOCKED if we see a little thingy in there.  VERY.
I am doing good with this pregnancy.  It’s much different than the last but not better or worse just different.  Wellllllllll the only bad part is that I am blowing up like a balloon much faster than I remember! Is that normal?  It better be or it very well could be twins!  The only thing that keeps me going (energy wise) is going to the gym and lifting weights.  No kidding.  I just recently figured it out.  On the days I don’t go to the gym (Tues, Thurs and Sat) I feel like a lump! I am dragging my feet and yawning all the time and I just have to nap when Ben naps! But Mon, Wed and Fri it’s like a whole different me!  No naps, house clean, bread made, dinner made sometimes dessert, laundry done, shopping done, self pedi, more play time with Ben etc!…I am telling you!  I am a believer now!  Exercising really does give me more energy.  And I know that’s true for all people, not just preggers.
So on my off days I am going to start doing Yoga.  I gotta do something but I also have to give my body a rest.  So I decided yoga was a good choice.  We’ll see how that goes. Never been a yoga gal.  Anybody know any good yoga videos?
Well I think that’s enough for now.  I think I just binged from my blogging fast.  Sorry. 🙂  Until next time!

Merry Christmas!!

This is what I came downstairs to this morning after my 6 am shower.  These two had busted into their stockings about 5:45 am and I was too tired to care. 🙂  Plus this scene melted the rest of the world away…
The morning was perfect.  We patiently waited for my parents to walk down and then we had breakfast.  It was 9 am before we finally got to the presents!  Thank goodness Lucie is one patient girl!  We did horsey rides and other fun things in the meantime.
Let the opening begin!
Cute furry boots that I am jealous of!  So cute!
After a lazy afternoon of naps and eating and games we decided to get out of the house and brave the freeeeeezing cold weather for a beautiful walk!  Even mom went willingly!
Daddy and Ben cuddled up…I am loving Ben’s new winter coat. Thank you mimi and papa!
Lucie ice skating on the icy roads
Winter wonderland
Then it was time for dinner at Mimi and Papas house…Ben was all smiles.  He is such a ham, he literally smiles for the camera now.  Here are a few examples.
Ignore the nastyness of my being…what can I say I’m pregnant. 🙂  JK
and more cheese…
Man I love this boy.
The day isn’t over…right now we’re waiting for cookies to come out of the oven (thanks honey!) and we’re going to play some more games and maybe end the night off with a movie.  What a great day and what a great life.  I love my family!!
Just have to post this video of Ben real quick.  It is so stinking cute…but then again I am his mom so I am a little biased.  But I think he is just plain cute.  He has gotten so good even better than this at walking around with his toy.  I think he enjoys this more than actually playing with it.  And this particular video was shot when he was kind of in a cranky mood..probably just before nap time so when he got ‘stuck’ or couldn’t walk any further he would get upset which is why David comes in and helps.  I just can’t believe how big he is getting.  He is my light and life and joy.
We went to an awesome halloween costume party tonight so stay tuned for pics and videos of that…what a night!!!
