Time Travel

These two shows…My goodness.

I’m not watching them at the same time. I finished 7th Heaven quite a while ago. And some new episodes of When Calls the Heart just came on Netflix so I’m doing that now.

But what do they have in common?

They make me very, very nostalgic.

I remember vividly while watching 7th Heaven how I desperately wanted to live with the Camden Family. I wanted to travel back to the 90’s and live on their street. I wanted my kids to go to school with their kids and make friends with them.

I wanted to be the friend who called Annie ON THE PHONE or stopped by and had a slice of cake in her kitchen while we caught up.

It made me so very desirous of the simpler times. No cell phones. Land lines! Pay phones if you were out and needed to call someone. Computers were meant for typing and maybe email…there was no hype about them yet. To me this show was about what real relationships used to look like.

I remember wanting more than anything to take a time machine back with my whole family.

And then enters When Calls the Heart.

Talk about a leap back in time. It takes place in the early 1900’s. I love this show.

And now more than anything I’ve been inspired to live more simply… like these people did. I’m not sure I would truly want to go back that far and live there but I feel like I can learn a lot from their lives.

There is a part of me from watching this show that wants to (and I probably will) dry my clothes out on a line in the fresh air. I want to live in the country, in a small town where everybody knows everybody. I want to home school my children and have pies cooling in the windowsill. I want my home to be small and simple, warmed by a fire. And technology to be scarce and hidden.

I am grateful for shows like these. Yes they are as cheesy as enchiladas but I love cheesy and I feel like the world could use more cheesy. It’s uplifting instead of degrading, inspiring instead of depressing. These two shows do so well at portraying the really important things in life.

So BRING ON THE CHEESE! And if you’re in the market for a new show, may I suggest either one of these to you? I know you wont be disappointed. And if you are, call me. We’ll have a chat.

2014 in Review

In January it was a quiet.  William was 6 months old and just starting to sleep.  I felt like I was getting back to normal at this point.

In February we celebrated Ben’s 2nd birthday. We had a small but memorable birthday with cake pops and pizza rolls.

In March  we enjoyed the rain and mostly stayed inside while daddy worked hard at school.  Getting excited for our summer vacation and I enjoyed a girl’s night out with my bestie…very much needed.

In April we celebrated David’s 34th birthday (received his RC car) and Lucie’s 10th!    William turned 9 months old and we got to have their cousins Beckham and Liam and Logan stay for about a week!  We also threw Mericar a bridal shower in Salt Lake.

In May David and papa went to California for a rabbit show.  The weather warmed up nicely and we started to enjoy our huge backyard again.  David finished classes, never to take one again, yay!  OH and Brian got married!  California beach lovin! William walking like a champ!

In June we celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary  and just loved Logan in the summertime.  Went to Summerfest with the boys.

In July I turned 28 and on the 7th we celebrated William’s first birthday in addition with America’s. We also went to Vegas for our big big rabbit show and had huge success!

In  August after getting my health in check I started getting into something I’ve always loved…guns. Big things happenin with the business.

In September we didn’t do much other than we do every day.  Except the rabbit men took another business trip back east this time.

October was the month we moved from the big house to our small apartment while my parents moved to their new tiny home.  We didn’t celebrate Halloween again because we can get away with it.  Did get to see Lucie for a short while!

In November we enjoyed the upcoming holiday festivities along with an Alex Boye concert.  We had Thanksgiving with family and friends! We spoke in our ward and Ben is officially fully potty trained!!!  OH and we started Guinea Pig research and formulating.

In December David got a calling as the Gospel Doctrine teacher. We put our foot down and became experts on mattresses…bought one.  Got ready for Christmas, tree, decor, elk ranch etc. Merry Christmas! Loved having Lucie!  Got our bed!!

2014 was a great year. It had it’s trials and boy did I learn a lot.  I didn’t reach all of my goals but I am motivated to do better and make new ones!

Alex Boye

Last night we got to see Alex Boye in concert.  My mom originally bought the tickets for her and my dad but she fell sick and couldn’t go.  Bummer.  She would have loved it.  We didn’t really know what to expect since I know so little of him but he didn’t disappoint.  He was very interactive with the audience and very funny and obviously the singing and performance wasn’t bad either.  He’s very talented.

I really wanted to record more of it for my poor mom but the first time I got it out and tried I got in trouble with an usher…twice.  Yikes.  Sorry mom.

I would definitely recommend seeing him if he’s in town.  He’s very generous, funny and entertaining.  He told us about his conversion and the trouble it caused him with his family and how he overcame it and chased his dreams…inspiring speech.  Anyway, good times.  I’m grateful that we got a free fun night out at the expense of my sick mom…I’m not grateful for that but you know what I mean.  Love this man of mine too.  SO in love with him.

2013 in Review

Disclaimer: this post may be very boring for you…it was mostly a good exercise for me.

In January it was a quiet.  Ben and I played at home most days while david started school and little William was about 3 months old (in womb).

In February we celebrated Ben’s 1st birthday.  He started walking. Also in February Drs. Foster and Smith started selling our rabbit food on their website.  This is the month we found out William was a he.

In March  our rabbit food was being sold in all the IFA stores. Yay!   We also took a trip to St. George for Spring Break and oh how much fun it was!

In April we celebrated David’s 33rd birthday and Lucie 9th!  We also started planting in our big garden!

In the dreaded month of May David finished finals and flew to Iowa for 2 weeks.  This is also the month we decided to move from our tiny but beloved apartment to this big old house.

In June we celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversay and we moved…I was 8 1/2 months preggo and HUGE.

In July I turned 27 and on the 7th little William was born peacefully at home.

In  August I hybernated at home while David started his second to last semester of school.

In September we had Williams blessing at the Ehlerts with his cousin Jax.

October was a great month becasue I started eating whatever I wanted and nursing became a lot easier.  I was still hybernating.

In November we made some big decision concerning the business and we took a trip to Boise for Thanksgiving with the Sherwoods!  We also had Thanksgiving at our house!

In December we finally got callings to be ward missionaries and we celebrated Christmas at our house! Oh and David shaved his head.

2013 was a great year.  I had another baby and he and Ben both make me so happy  I can hardly stand it.  David got another year closer to being done with school (hooray) and I learned so much about being a better mom and a wife.  I realize now how FAST a year goes, it makes me want to do more in 2014.  Cheers 2014!!
